Postgres nurturing

Postgres has many settings and until recently we never really knew the full power or affects of tweaking these settings. There are a few hundred or so settings to tweak so it can seem a daunting task to any db admin, especially when performance is application critical! One wrong setting could potentially degrade the performance of your system , or worse cause it to stop working altogether!

I found this very interesting video on what settings to set and recommeneded values for them. They concentrate n the big 12. i have set to work on our dbs to change the settings and am recording the query times to see if we notice any dramatic effect.

Heres the video - http://vimeo.com/7109722

I will post the results of our findings once completed

Tea Tea Tea

Whilst sat in the office today we suddely had an over whelming feeling of guilt. You see Dan always makes the tea and has done very well at this for the 4 weeks he has been here.

Due to guilt, and the fact that we actually hate making the stuff, we have signed up to a website to tell us whos turn it is!

http://www.makethetea.com/#/user/6776/groups/1808/ allows you to create groups and invite people, specify your preferred hot slurp and also ranks you in the world for your tea consumption.
